Pune-Mumbai Ghat Railway Line Restoration Underway After Severe Landslides, One Track Reopened
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed restoration work in the Pune-Mumbai ghat section after severe landslides damaged railway tracks and nearby areas. One railway line has been restored, with all trains operating using two locomotives. Central Railway, Western Railway, district authorities and the Forest Department are coordinating for early completion.
The Railway Minister assessed the condition of the affected section and said that the impact of the landslides has been significant. Restoration teams from Central Railway and Western Railway are working in close coordination to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore normal operations at the earliest.
Mr Vaishnaw informed that one railway line has already been restored, and the Railways has decided to operate all trains on this route using two locomotives to ensure safe and efficient movement.
He further said that railway teams are coordinating with district authorities and the Forest Department to speed up the restoration process and complete the remaining work as soon as possible.
The ongoing restoration efforts highlight the Railways’ focus on quickly reviving connectivity on the crucial Pune-Mumbai route after major disruption caused by natural damage in the ghat section.
